This little, casual restaurant is part of the Cheval Blanc Michelin ** restaurant and fabulous country inn with spa. This is Alsattian wood, friendly, and fabulous food by the same kitchen as the 2 star. For lunch we had a tiny chef creation of cream of asparagus soup. The foie gras was superb as an appetizer--enough for two to share. The beef entrecote was very nice with fries and a salad, and the quenelles--very French!--sort of an egg/slightly seafood/ mousse like main dish served over seasoned rice. One appetizer on the menu came with a Thai sauce, risotto either asparagus or scallops was offered as a main course. drinks were reasonable and a carafe of water is possible. Go for lunch, watch your alcohol, and drive on to Soufflenheim for French pottery and through Betchdorf to see the stork nests. This is about an hour drive south of Vogelweh for Americans. Well behaved older children were observed. The restaurant is not large--call or email for reservations. The delightful lady on the phone spoke English--calls are answered in the hotel--but the very traditional and helpful waiter did not. credit cards are accepted

Having read so many nice reviews regarding this restaurant, and knowing that it is the "little brother" is the Michelin-awarded next door Gastronomic restaurant "Au cheval blanc" we were eager to enjoy the more affordable version of the Rosselstub. We made a reservation for dinner and were delighted already with the service; professional and nice. The restaurant is cozy, welcoming and warm, with well-appointed and very spacious tables (something that I love). A section of the dining room has a partial view to the kitchen which is very interesting. They offer affordable but rich menus, along with delicious wines which are served either by bottles or glasses. We had the "Menu du Terroir" (for 28 euros) which includes an entry, a main dish and a dessert. I had the crusty snails as entry (very good) and the shrimp risotto (best risotto ever!). My husband had the row deer with spätzli and he found the meat to be very tasty and tender. Be aware that portions are actually pretty big, so the menu with 3 courses might be a little bit too much. Also allow quite some time to enjoy the food and the wine. We stayed over for almost an hour and half. Thankfully nobody will rash you Because we enjoyed the ambiance (casual and yet delicate) and the food (absolutely delicious) we came back the following evening. This time my husband had the Menu du Terroir (he enjoyed the risotto as well) and I opted for choosing directly from the menu an entry and a main course (crusty shrimps and Guinea-fowl). Again portions were pretty big (I didn't have appetite for a dessert). While the quality of the food was still good, I noticed it makes a difference ordering a fix menu and ordering and ordering á la carte. My dishes took a considerable amount of time to be ready (specially the guinea fowl) which made us wait for over 20 minutes, so by the time the main dishes came the risotto was lukewarm. Yet it is more than worth the visit and I would definitely come back.
