A Penalva da Graca
There's no English menus here, but don't let that scare you away. There is one staff member who speaks excellent English. He translated everything for us and was very patient and friendly. We got a plate of shrimp (10€) in garlic butter sauce with a twist. This was my husband's favourite sauce. We also got a plate of clams (12€) that my son LOVED. He used bread to soak up all the sauce. My favourite was the seafood stew for two (17€). It was a huge pot of tomato-based broth with rice, crab, shrimp and clams. The sauce was so flavourful. This place is open during siesta time which was a bonus for us because I couldn't wait until 7:30pm when most restaurants re-open for dinner. I have young kids and North American kids are used to eating early, around 6pm. This restaurant charged for each bread basket we had and even charged for butter (which is common for Portugal, but unheard of in North America). If you don't want the cheese appetizer they automatically give you (but charge you for if you eat it), then you can just politely send it back. Don't feel like you HAVE to eat it just because they put it on your table. Overall, the seafood was fresh, the sauces were delicious and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place on your next visit to Lisbon.
