We've eaten at Paola's restaurant three times now, each dinner better than the last; more food than one person can eat. Apparently the Portuguese have a saying about preferring to give you more food than you can eat rather than not giving you enough! That's certainly true here! The green wine is excellent as is the sangria. The first night we were serranaded by a fado singer and tonight Paola, the owner played fado music for us on his Portuguese guitar. This is one of the reasons I enjoy travel: meeting local people and managing to communicate despite the differences in language AND eating all the different foods.
We went there with high expectations that went quite unfulfilled. We thought we ought to try genuine portugese cuisine. That means fish, and loads of it. However, the fish was very plain, overloaded on garlic and oil. Also, the dessert was horrible. Dont take the pudding if you can help it. The area is filled with more scenic and more atmospheric restaurants from which you can have your pick.
