After a full morning of walking Siena\s cobblestone streets, my wife, my niece and I needed a place to rest and refuel. We passed by Il Bargello, and the prices on the chalkboard looked reasonable, so we stopped in. We were led downstairs into the small dining area. The wait staff was bringing out appetizers of cheeses and cold cuts on wooden blocks, which looked great but we didn\t order. My wife ordered the tortellini and said it was the best thing she ate on our trip. I ordered the carpaccio, raw beef on a bed of what I think was arugula. I was a little apprehensive after I ordered, but it was great, perfectly seasoned with a nice texture. The wait staff was polite and efficient. If you\re in Siena, definitely pay a visit.

This hidden gem is close to the Campo and Duomo, so right in the centre of Siena. We visited for lunch. This restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, which was a great contrast from the busy streets in August. The service is pleasant but not obtrusive. Things are not rushed here as the food is cooked properly. It was worth waiting for - delicious and great value. They have minimal English, so bring your phrase book. My 11 yr old son said that if he was writing a review, he would give this place 5*.
