Hippopotamus at Mega Bangna has been there since the Mall first opened, but I\ve only recently started going there as I assumed it would be like a Sizzler or other semi-fast food concept.......... it isn\t! The starters are great and are a good size, the salads are fresh, well seasoned and put together, the range of dishes is fantastic. Obviously the star of the show here is the beef and it is great for the price, cooked correctly and with great sauces, their Bearnaise is perfect. I wish they did some thicker cuts of beef as there is a much better and more reasonably priced selection in Thailand now. I understand that they are looking at this. The New World wines are great, and the place is really good fun especially when the band are playing, i wish they\d play some original music on the system though, I hate those 2nd rate cover versions. They could also dim the lights a little later on to make the atmosphere more intimate. All in all it\s great for families and early dinners, and if you get a group together, I go often now - rather than head into town. The added Service Charge and Tax is an annoyance, especially if you\ve had wine as it obviously bumps the price up beyond the very reasonable ones listed in the menu!

Prices got up recently but not the quality. The french sausages and the pork cutlet were not cooked, red inside! On the top of this you will pay 17% more than the displayed price, to add the vat and the service. Not a good sign...
