We were in LA for a couple days and needed a restaurant within walking distance from our hotel since we didn\t have a car. We chose South End based on reviews we read on trip advisor and it could not have been better! Everything from the staff to the wine to the ambiance to the food were absolutely perfect. It was literally a 2 minute walk from our hotel. We were greeted warmly upon entering and seated at a long bar-table. The place is small and the decor is cool with the Edison lighting and mural wall art. It\s dimly lit and the music is a good volume of coffee shop tunes/singer songwriter stuff. We were offered samples of 3 wines before making our selection of a Santa Barbara Pinot noir, 2008 vintage, with a handwritten label made by a friend of the restaurant owner. Delicious! We ordered a Caesar salad that was extremely fresh and authentic. The presentation was very nice as well. We ordered two pizzas to share: the Venus and High Sign because we wanted to sample both a red sauce and white pie. Both were great, hot and fresh, but the High Sign was absolutely delicious and loaded with perfectly cooked bacon strips. Highly recommended. Before we left, one of the waitresses brought us out a cannoli "on the house" to share which was especially nice. We lingered there about 2 hours and by the time we departed, the place was packed. We never ever felt rushed at all. This neighborhood is lucky to have such a cool spot in its midst. Go try it!!
