Yalla Sawa is my favourite restaurant in Cronulla. Not only is the food delicious middle eastern fare, but the host Zena and her staff are the friendliest people. We celebrated a couple of birthdays there with 20 guests, late April. The venue is quite small, so I booked 2 months in advance to make sure there would be room for all of us. Requested inside seating, but with such a large group, we were allocated the outside area on the footpath (needed to have 35 pax to book the whole restaurant!) It turned out to be perfect, the weather being warm enough to keep the awnings up. Our group enjoyed the whole outdoor area, with a long table set up facing the park across the path. The entire booking process was seamless, Zena and I kept in touch every 3-4 weeks to confirm numbers, menu selection and contingency plans. We ordered the set menu: 8 dishes + sides, all excellent choices. Started with a selection of dips and saj bread, followed by labneh and the best falafels I\ve ever tasted! Then came some octopus cooked with olives and crushed almonds (divine), duck in pomegranate and walnut sauce (moorish) and lamb koftas. By the time the mains came, we were quite full but managed to fit some in: salmon in spicy moroccan sauce ( a little too spicy for some of us, but very tasty nonetheless) and braised beef short ribs with harissa and pomegranate molasses ( absolutely delicious and very rich, shame we could not eat any more!!) The sides were equally good: roast potatoes with middle easter spices and a very refreshing tabouli. There is nothing on this menu I would not order again, it was that yummy! What we could not finish, the staff packed in containers for us to take home. The only thing I can\t comment on is dessert, as we brought our own birthday cakes. We chose the 8.15pm seating (the restaurant has 2 seatings, 6pm and 8.15pm), which is by far the best option to relax and enjoy the evening. Pros: - great cosy place to eat, very relaxed nice atmosphere, staff lovely and charming - food was beautiful, had I think braised beef which was stunning Cons: - bit pricey, about double what you would pay for compared to the many Asian restaurants they are competing with round the corner - big shame that they have an outside toilet which I had to go to in the rain around a dark corner, not great for the whole dining experience

A group of 4 of us decided to each order a different dish to share with a platter of 3 dips to start with. The dips were truly delicious and served with fried Lebanese bread and 1 piece of unfried Lebanese bread. We would\ve liked more of the fresh bread and less of the fried. The mains we ordered were all vegetarian, generous in size and very tasty. This is definitely the best Middle Eastern food in the Shire. Only negatives were that there\s no byo wine and the table was very small for 4 especially as we were sharing. Will definitely be back again.
