Anyone who\s been to Sicily will be familiar with the biscotti di mandorle--the little almond cookies that you see everywhere. The quality can vary vastly, which is why I always come here for mine. They are made on the premises by the family, so they are always fresh and soft and chewy inside. They make all kinds--the carob ones are my favorite--and they are a great price! I often go in when I\m staying near here and get \un etto\--you get 4 cookies for 1 euro! They make the best gelato in the summer, too, in little tubs, a perfect size to eat on your way to the beach. They also have something I\ve not found elsewhere--suga-free wholewheat breakfast biscotti. They are flavored with malt, so they taste sweet. By the way--I\m not gluten intolerant, but a few of my friends in England are, so I always send them the almond biscotti because they are, surprisingly, gluten-free. Traditionally, the flour used is potato flour. (By the way, when you buy a kilo or half a kilo, they pack them in a pretty gift box, free of charge.) I love this place, and the friendly family who own and run it are a pleasure to deal with.
