I used to frequent this store when it was located in the Prince Kuhio Plaza and luckily discovered its new location in a small shopping center on Kilauea Avenue during my recent visit to the Big Island. Excellent price on bulk macadamia nuts ($12.00/lb). Love the hot bar and prepared meals which are homemade and reasonably priced. Will return

After settling in at our rental for the week, the next task was shopping. After checking out the two food stores in Pahoa, Island Naturals became our go to place for groceries. It\s the only place in town with a decent selection of organics. There\s a nice hot food and salad bar that looked amazing, plus beer and wine at reasonable prices. But the fruits and veggies were our favorite. Exploring the island fruit selections was an adventure. And finding red, ripe organic tomatoes in February was quite a treat! It\ll be months before we see those again back home. I got a peach-mango pie there for my hubby\s birthday and it was amazing!

I wish I could give Island Naturals a better review than last time, I always go back hoping for improvement, but this last visit was worse than ever. The choice of products is very limited. The check-out staff were plain rude, to me and everyone else. I wouldn\t bring children here as there are loud pro-gun conversations and other inappropriate political issues discussed loudly. The regulars, as ever, seem to have no comprehension of community or consideration for for others. The one star is for their very good, if expensive, hot bar and salad bar food. It\s what keeps us trying again and hoping for improvement. Honestly, though, the local markets on Saturday and Sunday are a far superior choice on all counts.
