I\m really surprised to see all the negative reviews on here! We stumbled upon this place an hour after arriving to Chiang Mai on a particularly hot afternoon. I thought the owner who everyone is referring to as a "ladyboy", which is not the kindest term, was actually a very nice woman. She was quirky, yes, even funny, with maybe a little bit of a sarcastic attitude. She was very kind to us and even gave me a free refill on my beer. Food was excellent and fresh. It took about 20 minutes for it to come out, as she was the one preparing it, no problem by me. I could imagine that with too many people the service would suffer, but I can assure you that the food is good and the woman is a real character.

It\s no secret that this restaurant has an experience. I\d like to think it\s a bunch of Americans in a huff about needing good service. Yes, this isn\t even "great" service, but who cares! If you know what to expect, you will be fine. First and foremost, the Kao Soi is amazing. We\ve been here twice and will probably go a third time. Our friend ordered the cashew chicken which was also delicious. Go for the food. With love, we refer to the owner as the "Kao Soi Nazi," similar to the soup nazi. Know what you want, order it quick and prepare for a wait. If there are a lot of other people eating there, probably go somewhere else. I\m pretty sure it\s just the owner and a small kitchen in the back. Whatever normal dining expectations you have, leave them on the sidewalk. Get in, enjoy the heck out of your meal, smile and leave. It\s worth it for the food.
