Wonderful restaurant which we stumbled across having eaten at Karakoy Locantasi (also very good) that night. Istanbul is very quiet at the moment following recent negative news coverage... which meant we were the only ones in the restaurant. Really sad as Gumruk is amazing. We had Whisky Sours to start which would have rivalled and probably beaten the best cocktail bars in London and New York followed by a wonderful bottle of red wine from Ankara which we took to seeking out everywhere else we went to on the rest of our trip. We started with Falafel and Bulgar Meatballs, for mains we had the slow cooked beef and lamb kebab and for dessert a cream filled filo pastry roll with black pepper and mandarin. All of the food is presented beautifully and tastes stunning. The décor is amazing and the manager gave us a tour of the five floors after dinner - the place is beautiful and it\s such a shame no one is visiting. Gumruk would fit perfectly into the London food scene and if it was here, there would be queues out the door every night. As such, it\s not here and so you\ll just have to book a flight and make it over to Istanbul to try it!
