I\ve always had a theory that restaurants that offer too many cuisines won\t be good because they are jacks of all trades and master of none so I always walked right past this place because it says in the window it offers Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai food. How wrong I was. A few weeks ago I went to one of favourites in the area and it was closed so I looked through the windows of the alternates in the area. Most had one or two tables but Old Thanh Huong was full with people waiting outside so I had to give it a try. We tried some Chinese dishes, Emperors sauce pork and prawn fried rice. The Emperors sauce was amazing, a fusion of sweet and sour with some chilli and lemongrass and peanuts. The rice was great with a generous serving of prawns. The service was good and the restaurant clean and inviting. I\ve been back since and ordered exactly the same thing and it was amazing again.

Was going to try a nearby restaurant, based on reviews, but it was empty and this place was chockers. We were seated at a table with 4 other people. I ordered what the guy beside me was eating, tofu and seafood, and hubby ordered a soft noodle dish. We don\t normally venture too far out of Marrickville to eat but this was a bit further out and parking was \gettable\!! Food was delicious and the only reason I haven\t given Old Thanh Huong 5 stars is because of the cranky, unhelpful waitress. She ignored me twice when I asked for more hot water in our teapot so I got hubby to ask and she snapped at him that all we needed to do was to open the lid of the teapot and she would know we needed a refill. And then got cranky when I asked for the soup that the guy next to me had. " I would like exactly what he has got" . " You have chicken soup, costs nothing. He has beef in his soup, costs money" I told her that yes I would pay for beef soup and I still got chicken soup???? Yummy food though...
