I declare my bias up front: I\m a huge fan of Dean\s Diner. I\ve tried all of the gourmet burger outlets in Newtown and while they all do pretty good burgers, it\s Dean\s that I prefer. Walking into Dean\s is like going back in time 30 years to my childhood when local burger joints were everywhere. I spent part of my childhood in Tamworth, where there were two renowned burger places: The Acropolis in the CBD and Bev\s in South Tamworth. It\s funny you remember from being a kid. At Acropolis it was the milkshakes in stainless steel cups and the hand-cut hot chips; at Bev\s it was the burgers with beetroot. Dean\s always makes me think about how much of a treat it was to have a night of burgers and trips. The burger menu is huge. You can choose all sorts of burger combinations. I choose the burger of my childhood: bacon, egg, cheese and, of course, beetroot. I get chips and a can of drink and sit at a table and have my guilt-free nostalgic fix. I was in Dean\s one day when the one of owners asked if her young son could share my table to eat his burger. The little guy sat with me and introduced himself as "Dean" and adding "This place is named after me". He didn\t really eat much of his chips, mainly pushing them around the plate, but he happily chatted. If you are in Newtown and you like old-school burgers, Dean\s is worth trying. The staff are always really nice and if you are of a certain age you\ll find yourself thinking about your own childhood experiences at the local burger place.

One of my favourite burger joints in Newtown, authentic Australian style burgers and plenty of flavours to choose from. Their chips are pretty good too, with plenty of chicken salt. Porkers Burger is a favourite and a go to after a night on the town.
