I had the winter porridge special with spiced apples and flaked almonds. My partner had the Bircher muesli. We were delighted and the service was prompt and courteous. The menu was extensive. I could have chosen many dishes. The cup of Earl Grey tea was perfect.

Three of us sat at an outside table for morning tea on Friday. The experience was interesting. My order (a pot of Earl Grey tea) comprised a standard cafe size China tea pot containing hot water, an empty cup (no saucer provided), and a sealed tea bag on the tray. The pot was large enough to contain enough water for 3 cups of tea; but I only received one tea bag. So I made a cup of tea in the cup and asked for 2 more tea bags to put into the pot of water so I could make use of the rest of the hot water. So, we got it sorted out (not mentioning that I was given two English Breakfast tea bags, not Early Grey, so I had to ask again). My previous experiences with pots of tea in cafes is to have a pot with the tea leaves IN the pot (or a large tea bag or two) - not a pot of water, and a cup and a tea bag. I might expect differently in a down market cafeteria, but not a cafe. Now, the toasted raisin bread. It wasn\t bad, but even after spreading the supplied margarine (or whatever the spread was) on the toast, the toast was still very crispy and crunchy. I don\t know how they achieved this, but it was not soft and delicious like the toasted raisin breads I have had elsewhere. Perhaps it was the type of bread. For anyone who likes very crunchy raisin toast, this is the place. However, next time I want tea and toasted raisin bread near The Menzies hotel, I will try another cafe.
