This establishment is conveniently located next door to The Enmore Theatre, which my partner and I attended on January 9. On a first glance, the place looked a bit cramped, and the type to charge close to $10 for a coffee. However, upon entering and looking at the menu, we realised that this place was actually very reasonably priced for the location of Newtown. We ordered a warmed blueberry muffin and a milkshake which came to a total of only $9. We were honestly expecting to pay nearly $10 per item as we know the area is notorious for expensive cafes. The quality of the muffin and milkshake were good for the price, and we could see the $9 value in them. The employees were friendly and accommodating, without being personal, which I was grateful for. The only thing I can slightly put down is their lack of a counter. You had to order over a coffee machine which was a bit difficult. But still, the food was excellent and that\s what matters. We\ll definitely be back when we return to the area.

My dining companion had purchased a group buying voucher for “a breakfast or lunch of your choice and a beverage of your choice” for Blue Fig Cafe. Whilst the voucher stated “bookings recommended”, nowhere did it state that it was “essential”. There are 11- 12 tables in total at the Blue Fig Café. My friend and I walked in on a Sunday morning at around 11.30am , only to be told that bookings are essential and no booking no seating. However, at that particular moment, there was approximately 9 unoccupied tables in the café. Upon pointing out to the blankly staring waitress that bookings were not essential (whilst showing her the voucher) and there was only 2 tables occupied at that time in the cafe, she relayed this information to the manager (?). He advised the waitress “just tell them no” (loud enough for us to hear!). When my friend pressed further on the point about the bookings and a vacant café, the waitress advised that there was already a voucher booking for 12 noon that day and that we couldn’t dine there today and to go and call up for a booking. Ten minutes later, a booking was made via phone for 1 May 2016. I ordered the Green Brekky that consisted of Prosciutto, eggs, pesto, avocado, spinach and toast. My friend ordered the French Toast that consisted of Icing sugar, bacon, grilled banana and maple syrup. We ordered a pot of breakfast tea each as the beverage of choice. We were assured it was tea leaves being used which we both looked forward to (real tea!). Disappointment ensued. The adage of measuring tea leaves used in a pot of tea of “one teaspoon for me, and one for the pot” was obviously never used by the Blue Fig Café staff. After letting the tea draw for some time, what came out of the pot was a weak and insipid stream of tea coloured liquid. Upon further inspection, about half a teaspoon of tea leaves were used in each pot. That disappointment was then dwarfed by the food that came next. I asked for my eggs to be poached and I thought that food
