We were out exploring the U street corridor (there is really not much to see) for a place for breakfast. When we couldn\t find anything I asked Google for breakfast places near me...Google got it right! It was about a 10 minute gorgeous walk past amazing old DC houses and then on the corner there it was...It is not much to look at from the outside but you are also transported back to a different time. We had to wait about 30 minutes but it was worth it. Sat at the bar counter right by the grill...So entertaining to watch the gentleman work...Food was great! The apples are amazing and not something you can get everywhere!!! If you are on a diet or concerned about butter intake this may not be the place for you but if you want to take a trip to the past and have a great cheap breakfast definitely check it out!!!

I will say this, it isn\t the prettiest place, but the food was amazing. I tried the collard greens, catfish and cornbread. I was in heaven. They had some real soulfood items on the menu, can you say chitterlings (chitlins)? Growing up, you never ordered that outside your home or ate it outside your home for that matter, but they were sooooo good. The service was wonderful. The wait is a bit longer than expected, but the food was fresh and worth the wait. I enjoyed it very much. I would go back in a heart beat.
