​If you don\t come here on your first trip to Japan, that\s your loss. On a Wednesday night we were the only foreigner there, which was surprising since the place is in lonely planet. Listening to the music was a cultural experience and very unique. I didn\t know about these instruments, and have never before heard Japanese folk songs. The staff, which doubles as waiters and performers, was super friendly towards us. Everyone else was Japanese either on a business meeting or celebrating something, but language wasn\t an issue since they have an English menu. The pricing is a bit difficult to navigate before, as there is a cover charge of 2000 Yen plus a minimum of one drink and one dish per person. It\s a total of around $4000 Yen pp.

I traveled alone and my experience at this folk music izikaya was just wonderful!! They made me feel welcome from the first minute I arrived! The servers sit with the guests and make conversation between serving.There is a small informal menu so not fine dining but enough choice with fish, chicken and vegetables from which to choose. At 7(1900) and again later in the evening they all get up to perform.The music, singing, dancing,(and a little juggling) was really enjoyable! After the performance the entertainers mingled with the guests taking pictures and even letting one little boy try the drums. I think this fun evening should be on everyone\s "to do " list!! It is really great to find such a wonderful spot where I as a solo female traveler felt completely comfortable! I am sure that families and other groups would also find it great fun!
