Just had my 3rd dinner in this little gem and I can say finding this place was one of the highlights of my trip. Right around the corner from Sawanoya Ryokan where I\m staying, this restaurant features outstanding kushikatsu(battered & fried food on skewers) at an excellent price. They have an English menu for us foreigners so ordering was no problem and the wide assortment of fish, meats, veggies and cheeses leaves you spoiled for choices. Only drawback is that like many places in Japan, smoking is allowed so the guy next to you can light up. Only happened to me on my 3rd visit but be advised it can happen. Best part about the place was the friendliness of all the staff and owner. Anybody who visits Japan soon experiences a certain "distance" with the folks here. Nobody is rude and service is great but you can tell there is a certain cautiousness when a place deals with a foreigner. Never felt that at Kushizaru. Everyone from the staff and even other Japanese guest were friendly, open and kind. Really appreciated that a lot. Anyone looking for a great place to eat and relax, its here.

This place in Nezu was exactly what we\re looking for, a change of pace and something different. Basically this is an Osaka style restaurant, with skewers, the difference is that you can get meat fish and vegetables so plenty of variety. There are in a very light batter, more like breadcrumbs and then you dip in a vey tasty sauce. Sounds a bit strange but fun and great tasting and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
