I visited Mikuni Marunouchi with 3 Japanese friends, who had read up on the restaurant and decided that for once it\d be nice to do something a little different. When I visit Japan, I\ll fill up on Japanese food without considering going anywhere else but after a visit here, I think I\ll start branching out a little more. The staff were as warm, friendly and attentive as you\d expect from a restaurant in Japan. They were always within ear shot and usually arrived at the table having noticed you might require something before you had a chance to try and catch their attention. The decor was very clean and simple and there was plenty of light from the large windows scaling one side of the restaurant. This leaves a relaxing, pleasant, airiness about the restaurant, suggesting that whilst it is more upscale, it isn\t trying to be pretentious in the setting. The food itself seemed to follow a similar pattern, it was simple, yet delicious. We had the lunch time set menu, which consisted of 4 courses. The starter, a duck pate with mixed salad, the mains, meat and fish dishes, each came with seasonal vegetables, and the dessert was a chocolate pudding. The portions were modest yet after the meal I felt satisfied. I look forward to visiting again!
