We ate dinner at Vagenende on our last evening in Paris. The interior is absolutely beautiful and the Art Deco style made us feel like we had returned to the Belle Époque. The dinner was well paced and the service attentive. The restaurant caters to tourists so we were provided with an English menu although this did not distract from the ambiance or the quality of the meal. I ordered a steak with pepper sauce that was very good and my husband had a seafood dish. This is a good choice if you are looking for a nice dinner, a beautiful setting and good service without spending too much.

Our local hotel recommended this restaurant and we decided to try it. The atmosphere and staff were welcoming, a nice start! The interior was classic...nice! The food was okay and the wine was fine. Poured our own wine and water during the meal. When we finally got the bill from the waiter, he was persistent about what a good waiter he was and if we were happy with his service. I nodded nicely, and signed the bill, but the waiter was pointing at the "additional tip" despite the meal being "Service Included". As we were preparing to leave (with the waiter hawking over us for the extra tip which I leave when my service is superb), his mood and demeanor quickly changed when he wasn\t able to get an extra tip out of us. Our fault for being the nice tourists and smiling a bit too much. We, as Americans, have set a bad precedent for tipping when abroad. We\ve traveled a lot and it seems that the extra tipping on top of the included service (10-15%) is now expected for the smiling American. FYI for those unaware about included service charges abroad.

The place is really beautiful, a typical Parisian restaurant. Service was great, as our waiter was trying everything to satisfy us, although one of the dishes was changed and one of our guests had to wait for some time to get it corrected. The ham starter was very good, as well as the wine selection. Food was good, but nothing really special. Sauce was cold.
