Typical neighborhood bistro serving mainly South-Western specialty from Landes region (known for duck, foie gras,...). I decided for the affordable lunch menu with a tuna, tomato salad (very well prepared), a classical skirt steak with shallots sauce with French fries (of course) and a glass of Buzet. Typical bistro decor and pleasant service.

Le Landais is a charming and simple bistro located at the far end of Cherche Midi. On a recent visit to Paris we ate there twice, both times in the late afternoon, after the lunch crowds had left and before the dinner folks arrived. The owner was extremely welcoming and although our French is good enough to navigate the menu, he was very helpful by explaining the specials. What we really loved was how they specialize in duck. In our two visits we had it prepared four different ways and each was superb. Service was very friendly, the owner turned down the music (the speaker was above our table and the restaurant was nearly empty) without my having to ask, the wine list is diverse, including specials that were particularly well-priced and sold by either the glass or the carafe, and the menu prices were very good for the quality and range of choices. If we had stayed in Paris longer we would have gone back a third time. A lovely discovery.
