Lovely delicately balanced portions with beautiful sake made our first and short visit to Kappo a delight! I came with my Sydney foodie group of ladies to Melbourne for a weekend of pure indulgence and on that day we had a long and satisfying 4 hour lunch at Dinner by Heston. Hence, our appetites were quite wary of another round of food so soon...but Kappo was perfect as we had the 5 course tasting menu. Every dish in the menu worked so well and complimented what came before and after. The restaurant itself was a little cosy but that is also inline with what Japan is about. The food was clean, fresh and most importantly full of flavour. My favourite was the walnut miso sauce in one of the dishes...mmmm I can still remember the taste! Finally, even if you are not a sake drinker I would recommend that you try their suggestions. It really complimented the food presented.

My wife and I dined at Kappo for a wedding anniversary dinner in early April. It was not the first time we had been here, and it will not be the last. On this occasion we opted for the 5 course degustation withy the wine only match. On a previous visit we had enjoyed a 7 course meal with sake and wine match, and were really impressed. The menu changes according to what is available at the time, leaving this highly talented chef to weave his magic. Speaking of which, whilst dining at the bar and watching the chef prepare each meal is one of the highlights of eating here, as you feel you are being attended to by your own personal chef. Kappo is a unique Omakase experience here in Melbourne and should be on everyone\s list to seek out!
