We were the only client in the restaurant (7pm on Wednesday night) No English menu but picture in the menu. The waiter forced us to take one drink each in addition to the food. The food was actually quite good and very tasty. Good quality beef and fish. Price is approx 3000yen per person. 3 star for the service but 4 star for the food.

We spent 2 months recently in Vietnam. Loved the people and the food. During our 2-week visit to Japan before returning to the US, we thought it would be nice to have a Vietnamese meal in Kyoto, a city where we have enjoyed great times, food and hospitality. We made a reservation for this restaurant, apparently one of 3 Vietnamese restaurants within a km of each other. Try one of the other ones. Our food, once worked out (there was no English menu and we were brought a dish that needed to be re-prepared because it had something we don\t eat in it) was pretty good. Not as good as Vietnam, but worth eating for sure. But we didn\t feel at all welcome. The waiter/chef/proprietor(?) was surly and ignored us. This is the sort of thing Westerners and Americans sometimes complain about in Japan. But it is the ONLY time we have experienced anything along these lines during our visit to Kyoto and other places in western Japan. The bill? He wrote a figure on a piece of paper. When we tried to calculate the bill based on individual items, he said there was a cover charge. Mind of late in our visit for that kind of information. We paid it and left. If this had been our first night in Kyoto and/or Japan, it might have gotten our trip going in the wrong direction. But we\ve had a wonderful week, with people going out of their way to be kind, welcoming and helpful. It certainly didn\t remind us of Vietnam, either. Like I said...if you\re in the mood for Vietnamese food, I\d suggest checking out one of the other restaurants nearby.
