We had a great time at this hidden bar that we found from other wonderful reviews on tripadvisor. The bar is down a small alleyway and had small intimate feel. Two nice older Japanese men were also enjoying a couple whiskeys as well. Nao was really nice and quite informative on his Japanese whiskey. We tried several including Nikka Coffey Whiskey which was quite special. I even bought at the duty free shop at the airport to bring home since they dont sell in New York.

It feels like you enter a friend\s house, such is the warm welcome of Barman Nao (a legend of kindness, hospitality, warmth, and humility!). It is a tiny place (only about 8 or 9 seats) but it is HUGE in warmth and atmosphere...There is not a large choice of sakes, so don\t go there if all you want is sake, but for whiskies and/or cocktails YES! And man! if - like myself - you are a whisky aficionado (or aficionada), then do yourself a favour and sample his extraordinary Nikka single malt "Yoichi". A little oasis of friendliness and internationality. A perfect ending to an evening in this part of Kyoto!

Just a fantastic place. Everything we read about the welcome and quality is right! We had a fab time. Great recommendations for both sake and Japanese whiskey, and the cocktails were brilliant. It filled up - one Japanese, two English, a Kiwi, an Aussie and too Americans and my lovely French hubby. Just a perfect end to the evening with brilliant service from Nao.
