It all started with a misunderstanding and turned out to be the greatest culinary experience of our 12 days tour in Japan. When we arrived in Kyoto we made reservation for dinner at a French restaurant near our hotel (Noku Hotel, Marutamachi subway station). The said evening we were about to leave the hotel when we got an upsetting call. The restaurant was very sorry but somebody made a mistake in accepting our reservation. They were overbooked and couldn\t welcome us. A contrite owner willing to do the best he could in this situation directed us to Orto Restaurant. "You won\t regret it, i promise" and we didn\t. And there started a wonderful evening. Great welcoming staff, attentive and kind in a neat modern decor. And the food, just amazing. French and Italian inspiration, all with fresh Kyoto ingredients. We had the tasting menu: amuse bouche and 9 courses, all of them a perfection. Amazing combination of flavors, beautiful presentation, a delight for the eye and the palate from appetizer to desert. And if we had on dish to recomend it would be the Vegetable Garden with more than 15 ingredients. Orto is a must try, you won\t regret it.

Amazing food: Japanese-Italian fusion. Each course was an amalgamation of amazing flavors presented beautifully. The staff members are all great; attentive, kind and helpful but not over-bearing I\ve been twice before the March renewal and once afterward. Keeps getting better and better.
