Me and my friend visit raheema after participating SAARC film fest at tharangani theater, colombo. We were starved to death and all we got was less than 1000LKR at that time. After we visit we ordered one beef kottu with gravy and two hot milos. After 10 mins, we received what we ordered. The taste was wow. We never thought beef kottu was that much tastier. After we dine, we drank our hot milos. I strongly suggest you if you visit hotel raheema, you must taste this super drink. Amazing thing was we only have to pay 300lkr for what we get. That's why I give 5 stars. Thumbs up!!!
Excellent breakfast - mutton kurma, dhal curry, tempered potatoes, onion sambol and parata with a tin kiri tea. Can't beat it. The double beef kottu is also good. Cleanliness is not a strong point. Fantastic service. Cheap.
This is the place to go if you are looking for a no frills Biriyani or more aptly "Buriyani" as they call it, which is correct, as a lover of true Biriyani would take a scimitar to one who calls the fare here thus. The Buriyani is a heaped mound of rice cooked in ghee with raisins and cloves and with a couple of cashews and served with a boiled egg hidden in the middle of the rice mound, it is all crowned with a very generous quarter of roasted chicken and served with chicken gravy, mint sambol and onion sambol. Don't expect Basmathi rice as they seem to get a long fine with the Samba rice closest at hand. Raheema's has been around forever as I can remember. I have been a regular for more than 25 years and keep going back as I love the nostalgia of being able to sit at the same table I sat for so many years and talk to the same waiters who have been around since I first walked in. Raheemas has in addition to the rice dishes, an extensive menu of Rotis, Naans and all sorts of Wadais and a myriad of oil dripping sweets that are so delicious but deadly to the health of any sane individual. If you are a perfectionist and looking for fine dining please don't go, but if you have the urge once a while to eat the fancy food of the common man, and if you don't mind sitting at the same table with a hoi polloi of who knows who, and can appreciate the mass of souls happily devouring Buriyani by the dozen, then this is your place. Go hungry and come away stuffed.
One of the places that I normally visit when I am in Colombo for a quick and delicious meal. Its a busy place so obviously not the classy restaurant that you are looking for. But their food is really nice and if you are a meat lover you should try their Chicken Buriyani something that I enjoyed in my non-Veg days. Also their Watalappam is one of the best that I have ever tasted. You may have doubts about their cleanliness when you visit the place but my stomach is totally fine and would try their food again and again.
