

EXPLORING ZUNYI



I have been living in China for almost a year and explored many beautiful cities. This time I chose a trip with a complex itinerary organized by Ctrip.

Everlasting green mountains, a variety of waterfalls, colorful hills, large caves for climbing or for storing famous local produced liquor, live melodramas that convey the viewer the true love of country, fresh air, - all this is Zunyi, a historical and cultural city of Guizhou Province.

Summary of the itinerary:

Day 1



-As we landed ? in Zunyi airport, the airport stood out because it was surrounded by the mountains and the green,

we went for lunch to try Zunyi special mutton rice noodles in Honghuagang;





-We visited the site of the Zunyi conference which celebrates the take over of military command by Mao Zedong;

-Arriving in Shuanghe Inn, Scenic Area hotel- also the newest styled hotel where antique and modern meet.

Day 2





Location was like a dream, occupied by mountains, rivers and water lilies.

The first and most unforgettable activity within this trip was the cave trip “Underground valley”

Teamwork played an important role in achieving our goal.

Summarizing this experience, I can say my bravery increased.

Next adventure brought us again to the caves. This time definitely not for climbing, just for observing. That cave name is Shuanghedong Cave network Asia’s longest with a length of 238 kilometers and the sixth longest in the world.









Walking inside that karst landscapes I saw many figures, some like human faces, teeth of dinosaurs

and even cat shaped stones looking down on us.





All of them depict that nature is the basis of our life.

The finale of our day was so meaningful...when we received tickets I thought we are going to watch a historical movie about China’s history under Mao Zedong,

but it turned to be a performance. “The great turning point” was screened live with original productions starting with the costumes of the actors, the scenery and even some of the scents and sensations on the the stage, such as alcohol, snow and winter, were transmitted to the audience.





Acrobatic stunts were top notch. Most importantly, after seeing this performance, it was as if I were there together with the actors

Day 3



After a busy two days, we went early in the morning to the city of Maotai, which is glorified as the center and pride of China for the production of more than 500 kinds of strong liquor. The main alcoholic beverage company in the city is called Kweichow Moutai Company.



Maotai is made from sorghum and strength varies from 35% to 53%.

An important fact: as soon as you enter Maotai, you will be surrounded by the aroma of this alcoholic beverage everywhere.

Next destination after such a strong long-lasting taste, we went to Gui Xian Dong, a karst cave 60 miles away from Maotai town, pioneered making and storing liquor in karst cave. Inside the cave, temperature and humidity are fixed all year round and there is micropopulation suited for making baijiu.





Outside the cave, there is spring water rich in mineral.



Cycling along the Chishui River 8 km. Emotions were agitating, until I fell at high speed.



Note: Never exceed the speed on this bike path! There are very sharp reversals, ups and downs.

In the evening we had a BBQ party outdoors and danced and played around the bonfire until we were picked up.

Continuing the campfire quickly nearby, viewing intangible cultural heritage. Since in former times there were no fireworks, the people invented their own kind of flame by the eruption of molten iron in the air "打铁 花" or otherwise called "iron shower"



Tip: Do not sit close to performance or say farewell to your clothes!

Day 4



And our final day came quickly. Visited Gorgeous Foguangyan Scenic Area, Danxia landform, which is one of the World Natural Heritages approved by UNESCO.

This area is covered by forest and more than 350 waterfalls. Hiking available close by and gives breathtaking views. The highest waterfall reaches 200 metres high.

After spending time amongst the natural wonders, we held a meeting to discuss the things we had seen.

After this, it was time to say goodbye. As a last activity we were given gifts as a thank you for our participation in this experience.

Summary: The 4 day tour was very practical, everything was on time. I found a unique outcome: caving - visiting colorful hills, Bonfire - “Metal shower” and cycling along the Chishui River - a waterfall that divides the river and cliffs. I will remember this experience for a very long time.
